Bharatiya Kisan Sangh organised a massive protest in Bhopal district on Tuesday demanding compensation for Kharif crops destroyed due to bad weather and pest infestation and payment of pending crop insurance amount.
Farmers from Nazirabad, Bairasia and Huzur tehsils took out a huge rally with a large number of tractors to draw the attention of the government towards their demands. This tractor rally, which started from Nazirabad tehsil, reached Bairasia tehsil office via the main roads. Here the farmers organised a big public meeting and raised their voice against crop loss, insurance payment and agriculture related problems.
After this,
a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister was submitted to administrative officials. In Bairasia, ADM Prakash Nayak and Additional SP Pramod Sonkar accepted the farmers' memorandum. The farmers involved in the movement raised anti-government slogans and demanded immediate resolution of their demands.
Soybean and black gram crops have suffered heavy losses.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh District President Girvar Singh Rajput and District Minister Devendra Dangi stated that bad weather, rain, and a caterpillar infestation have caused significant damage to soybean, black gram, and other Kharif crops. Farmers' financial situation is already dire, and the lack of crop insurance payments for the year 2024-25 has further exacerbated their problems. They demanded that an impartial survey of their crops be conducted and adequate compensation be provided immediately, so that affected farmers can prepare for the upcoming Rabi season.
Farmers headed for the Collectorate
Following a meeting and memorandum in Bairasia, farmers organized a foot march. The rally proceeded towards Bhopal Tehsil Huzur via the main road and bus stand and later proceeded towards Bhopal Collectorate. The farmers made it clear that if their demands are not met promptly, the movement will be expanded.
The farmers' main demands raised in the memorandum:
An impartial survey of the crops should be conducted and adequate compensation should be provided to all affected farmers immediately.
The benefits of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme should be provided promptly. The pending insurance payments for Kharif crops damaged in the year 2024-25 should be made immediately.
Satellite surveys should be stopped in the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme and physical and transparent surveys should be conducted as before. Farmers should be provided with adequate fertilizers, seeds, and uninterrupted electricity for the upcoming Rabi season.
More than a thousand farmers and workers participated in this movement along with many tractors. On behalf of the administration, SDM Shivangi Baghel, Agriculture Department officer Suman Prasad, Tehsildar and employees of various departments were present. A large number of farmer workers including Bharatiya Kisan Sangh's provincial member Kailash Singh Thakur, divisional officer Ved Prakash Dangi participated in the movement.
