Five people, including a father, son and grandmother, died while going to celebrate Makar Sankranti.
Five people were killed and more than nine injured in a tragic road accident that took place in Bairasia at around 9 pm on Wednesday night. The deceased include a father, his son, and the boy's grandmother. Everyone was going from Sironj (Vidisha) to Narmadapuram to celebrate Makar Sankranti. According to the police, the accident took place near Vidya Vihar School in Bairasia. Here a tractor-trolley and a pickup loading vehicle collided head-on. Fourteen people were traveling in the pickup truck. It is being told that some people riding in the tractor-trolley have also been injured. A 14-year-old boy and three elderly women were among the deceased. Those who lost their lives in the accident include Deepak (14), his father Mukesh Ahirwar (33) and grandmother Babri Bai (60). Apart from this, Laxmi Bai Ahirwar (60) and Hari Bai Ahirwar (60) also died.
There were 14 people in the pickup, all of whom were going to Narmadapuram.
The accident occurred due to high speed and darkness.
Bairasia police station in-charge Vijendra Sen said that the people travelling in the tractor-trolley were returning after taking bath in the Narmada river, while the people travelling in the pickup vehicle were going to Narmadapuram to celebrate Makar Sankranti. He said that the road on which the accident took place is straight and there is no turn or accident prone area, but due to it being night, the area was dark. Preliminary investigation has revealed that due to the straight road, both the vehicles might have been moving at high speed. During this time, both of them suddenly came face to face, due to which this terrible accident happened.
